SPCA of Texas Receives Transfer of 18 Un-Owned Dogs from Louisiana to Make Room for Animals Affected by Natural Disasters

(DALLAS, TX); September 3, 2016--The SPCA of Texas, working with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), received a transfer of 18 un-owned dogs today at its West Dallas shelter from the Lamar Dixon Expo Center emergency shelter in Louisiana thanks to transport assistance from the American Humane Association (AHA). IFAW and AHA are working in conjunction with the National Animal Rescue and Sheltering Coalition (NARSC). NARSC was mobilized at the request of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry. This transfer frees up space in parish animal shelter facilities to make more room for animals affected by natural disasters.

The dogs arrived mid-afternoon today at the SPCA of Texas’ Animal Rescue Center, Empowered by PetSmart Charities Emergency Relief, which is a part of its Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center Campus in Dallas.

The dogs will be evaluated upon their arrival by SPCA of Texas’ medical and behavior teams and will receive all the care they need. The SPCA of Texas hopes to place them up for adoption in the coming days. When they are ready for adoption, photos will be posted on www.spca.org/findapet.

"I'm absolutely in LOVE with Kitty (formerly Kaleigh). I know her name isn't original at all but I just started calling her that until I could think of a name and it just stuck - it's so her! I've attached two photos - she's seriously the most beautiful kitty in the world! She loves to steal tennis balls and bones from her dog sister - she thinks she's a dog! She enjoys going for walks and car rides, snuggling with mom, bird watching, drinking from the sink, playing with her pipe cleaners and getting into mom's makeup in the mornings. I couldn't 'imagine life without her. She's the absolute best!"
