KIDS & FAMILIES

Animals + youth = a love affair.

Love animals? Want to get your kids excited about community service? We have volunteer opportunities for youth ages 10+ and their families. See some furry friends, learn about animal welfare and make a difference.

The SPCA of Texas is happy to offer volunteer opportunities for youth ages 10+. Please see below for information on the opportunities for various age groups:

  • Youth volunteers 10 to 11 years of age must always be accompanied by and work alongside their parent/guardian while assisting with very important daily non-animal handling operational tasks such as but not limited to: Laundry, washing dishes, cleaning, greeting customers, assisting with social media, and participating in special events. These volunteers are also eligible for cat handling training.
  • Youth volunteers 12 to 14 years of age must always be accompanied by and work alongside their parent/guardian while assisting with hands-on care of animals only after they, and their parent/guardian successfully complete animal handling training. These volunteers are eligible for dog handling. Hands on care of animals might include walking dogs, socializing cats, and feeding, grooming, and cleaning of animals.
  • Youth volunteers 15 to 17 years of age may volunteer solo with parent/guardian consent.

Example volunteer activities for kids, teens and families include:

  • Prepping activities for pet enrichment
  • Washing animal bedding
  • Working in our dietary area
  • Cat TLC
  • Dog walking
