3K Fun Run/Walk and 5K Timed Run Benefitting the SPCA of Texas to be Held at the Base of the Margaret Hunt-Hill Bridge

WHAT: Lace up those sneakers, get ready to roll out with your best tailwaggin’ friend and come join the party on Saturday, May 16 at Trinity Groves for the SPCA of Texas’ tenth annual Strut Your Mutt, the Race to End Animal Cruelty. The entry fee is $35 per person and canine companions are welcome (but not required). Registration is $35 for 3K and $40 for 5K.

The festivities begin at 8 a.m. with registration, breakfast, vendors to visit and activities for everyone. The timed 5K begins at 9 a.m. and the 3K Walk/Fun Run begins at 9:30 a.m.

This year, the event is initiating a new focus: the Race to End Animal Cruelty. This is an enormously important issue, and one that the organization would like to enlist the support of our community to put a stop to. The SPCA of Texas maintains a Rescue and Investigations Department with six full-time humane investigators, two educators, one supervisor and one case manager. The humane investigators respond to more than 3,000 cases of cruelty each year in Texas.  Receiving an average of 3,000-5,000 calls a year from people who have seen or know about cases of animal cruelty, the Rescue and Investigations team rescues approximately 1,500 animals in distress each year in a variety of Texas counties.

In addition to the walk, strutters will enjoy craft beer at Four Corners Brewery, located on the west side of Trinity Groves, as well as free hot dogs and hamburgers. We will also have plenty of family-fun events for you to enjoy in our Bow-Wow-Bazaar, which will include vendor booths, activities for pets and kids, demonstrations and more!  Families will jam out while they bounce, giggle and play in the Puppy Pals Kids Zone. Everyone who registers can also help the SPCA of Texas raise funds by collecting pledges for cool prizes and participating in the individual and corporate fundraising challenges. Those who can't make it that day may register as Lazy Dogs and participate in individual or team fundraising challenges. Online Registration will be available until May 15. Top Fundraising Challenge prizes will be awarded to participants who collect the most pledges. Donations may be made for Strut Your Mutt through May 31. All proceeds benefit the SPCA of Texas and our race to end animal cruelty.

"I'm absolutely in LOVE with Kitty (formerly Kaleigh). I know her name isn't original at all but I just started calling her that until I could think of a name and it just stuck - it's so her! I've attached two photos - she's seriously the most beautiful kitty in the world! She loves to steal tennis balls and bones from her dog sister - she thinks she's a dog! She enjoys going for walks and car rides, snuggling with mom, bird watching, drinking from the sink, playing with her pipe cleaners and getting into mom's makeup in the mornings. I couldn't 'imagine life without her. She's the absolute best!"
