The Problem of Pet Overpopulation

The surplus of unwanted dogs and cats adds up more than 4.6 million each year that are euthanized in animal shelters nationwide. In the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex, that figure is estimated at 200,000. In fact, recent statistics show that out of 71 major U.S. markets, with No. 1 having the lowest euthanasia rate and 71 having the highest, Dallas ranks a shameful 50th euthanizing 32 animals per 1,000 people in the year 2000.*

You can help stop the staggering problem of pet overpopulation and euthanasia by having your pet spayed or neutered and obtaining your pet from a shelter or rescue group.

5th year: 12,680
6th year: 73,041

8th year: 2,423,316
9th year: 13,958,290
10th year: 80,399,780

One female dog and one male dog in seven generations, without benefit of spay/neuter, add up to:

1st year: 4
2nd year: 12
3rd year: 36
5th year: 324
7th year: 4,372

"I'm absolutely in LOVE with Kitty (formerly Kaleigh). I know her name isn't original at all but I just started calling her that until I could think of a name and it just stuck - it's so her! I've attached two photos - she's seriously the most beautiful kitty in the world! She loves to steal tennis balls and bones from her dog sister - she thinks she's a dog! She enjoys going for walks and car rides, snuggling with mom, bird watching, drinking from the sink, playing with her pipe cleaners and getting into mom's makeup in the mornings. I couldn't 'imagine life without her. She's the absolute best!"
