Give Your Pet a Dry Bath

Although many dogs and cats clean themselves exceedingly well, most still need our help to keep looking, and feeling, their very best. In fact, regular grooming is an important part of your pet's preventive health program. First, grooming helps keep skin, ears and teeth in top condition. And second, grooming sessions are a perfect opportunity to give your pet a home examination, so you can detect any health problems in its early stages. Also, the touching the massage that goes along with grooming relax your pet and strengthen the bond between you.

That being said, what happens when your pet refuses to get into the tub?

There is a dry shampoo that you can make at home that will help with smell and some cleaning. Keep in mind that this does not do anything for skin problems, fleas or other problems. You may want to see a professional groomer or veterinarian for help. But, for general maintenance, use this.

Place one-cup bran, oatmeal or cornmeal on a cookie sheet. Put it in the oven on low for 5 minutes to warm the grain. Removing a little at a time, so that the rest stays warm, but not too hot, rub the grain into the fur with a towel. Concentrate on the greasy, dirty areas, Then brush these areas thoroughly to get the grain out. And most important, be patient and you will both enjoy the benefits.

"I'm absolutely in LOVE with Kitty (formerly Kaleigh). I know her name isn't original at all but I just started calling her that until I could think of a name and it just stuck - it's so her! I've attached two photos - she's seriously the most beautiful kitty in the world! She loves to steal tennis balls and bones from her dog sister - she thinks she's a dog! She enjoys going for walks and car rides, snuggling with mom, bird watching, drinking from the sink, playing with her pipe cleaners and getting into mom's makeup in the mornings. I couldn't 'imagine life without her. She's the absolute best!"
