WHAT: The SPCA of Texas is offering a low-cost vaccination clinic the first and third Saturday of each month at the Russell H. Perry Spay/Neuter & Wellness Clinic in McKinney from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. This clinic is a part of a series of low-cost, walk-in pet vaccination clinics the organization is hosting this year and beyond to provide an easy and affordable way for the community to help curb the spread of common and highly contagious illnesses in pets. For more information, visit www.spca.org/locations.

Vaccinations will be $10 each for Rabies, $15 for Bordetella and $12 each for FVRCP and Distemper Combo for dogs and cats. Pet owners can also have their pets microchipped for $15 each. Additionally, clients purchasing 12 months of heartworm preventive will receive their pets' heartworm test for free (a savings of $25). Clients purchasing six months of heartworm preventive will save $10 on their pets’ heartworm test (costing $15, normally $25). There will be no exam fee for these services at the vaccination clinics.

WHY: Spaying, neutering and vaccinating pets saves lives by preventing unwanted litters, keeping thousands of animals off the mean streets and stopping the spread of dangerous illnesses like Parvo and Distemper.

Having pets spayed and neutered is the most important way to prevent pet overpopulation and ensuring animals live happy, healthy lives in loving homes by decreasing roaming tendencies, aggression and preventing certain forms of cancer in pets. And vaccinating them ensures that their immune systems can protect them from dangerous and life-threatening viruses and bacteria. Texas law also requires Rabies vaccinations. Further, veterinary wellness care is a critical component of preventive care for cats and dogs.

"I'm absolutely in LOVE with Kitty (formerly Kaleigh). I know her name isn't original at all but I just started calling her that until I could think of a name and it just stuck - it's so her! I've attached two photos - she's seriously the most beautiful kitty in the world! She loves to steal tennis balls and bones from her dog sister - she thinks she's a dog! She enjoys going for walks and car rides, snuggling with mom, bird watching, drinking from the sink, playing with her pipe cleaners and getting into mom's makeup in the mornings. I couldn't 'imagine life without her. She's the absolute best!"
