SPCA of Texas Transfers 13 Animals from the City of San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter and Adoption Center of San Marcos, TX

(DALLAS, TX) May 30, 2015 – Today at 2 p.m., the SPCA of Texas’ Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center received a transfer of 11 dogs and two ferrets from the City of San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter and Adoption Center of San Marcos, TX to help the shelter make room for the animals they are caring for in the aftermath of last Sunday’s extreme flooding and those they expect to take in in the coming days. The transferred dogs and ferrets were already in need of a new home before the transfer.

The flood waters of the San Marcos River stopped just at the front door of the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter and Adoption Center itself last Sunday. Since last Sunday, the San Marcos shelter has been caring for approximately 55 pets of people who sought shelter when their homes were overtaken by the Memorial Day weekend flooding. The City of San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter transferred a total of approximately 80 animals to other groups across Texas this week, including the 13 that arrived at the SPCA of Texas today.

The SPCA of Texas will evaluate the dogs and ferrets, will provide them with all the care they need and hopes to place them up for adoption in the coming days. To view all pets for adoption at the SPCA of Texas, visit

"I'm absolutely in LOVE with Kitty (formerly Kaleigh). I know her name isn't original at all but I just started calling her that until I could think of a name and it just stuck - it's so her! I've attached two photos - she's seriously the most beautiful kitty in the world! She loves to steal tennis balls and bones from her dog sister - she thinks she's a dog! She enjoys going for walks and car rides, snuggling with mom, bird watching, drinking from the sink, playing with her pipe cleaners and getting into mom's makeup in the mornings. I couldn't 'imagine life without her. She's the absolute best!"
