This transfer will free up space at from The Stephens County Animal Welfare Center so the group may respond to animals affected by the storm and allow the owners of lost pets to find their family members close to where they live.

The Humane Society of the United States organized a transport of adoptable animals to Dallas to assist the Stephens County Animal Welfare Center. The SPCA of Texas is a Humane Society of the United States Emergency Placement Partner, a vast network that stands ready to assist animals in crisis.

The 22 dogs are currently being housed at The SPCA of Texas’ Animal Rescue Center, Empowered by PetSmart Charities Emergency Relief, which is a part of its Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center Campus in Dallas and are currently under evaluation with the SPCA of Texas medical and behavior department.  When they are ready for adoption, photos will be posted on

"I'm absolutely in LOVE with Kitty (formerly Kaleigh). I know her name isn't original at all but I just started calling her that until I could think of a name and it just stuck - it's so her! I've attached two photos - she's seriously the most beautiful kitty in the world! She loves to steal tennis balls and bones from her dog sister - she thinks she's a dog! She enjoys going for walks and car rides, snuggling with mom, bird watching, drinking from the sink, playing with her pipe cleaners and getting into mom's makeup in the mornings. I couldn't 'imagine life without her. She's the absolute best!"
