SPCA OF TEXAS RECEIVES MORE THAN $120,000 FROM PETSMART CHARITIES® TO SUPPORT 3,000+ PETS RESCUED ANNUALLY FROM ANIMAL CRUELTY AND ANIMALS AFFECTED BY NATURAL DISASTERS

(DALLAS, TX); June 5, 2017—The SPCA of Texas is excited to announce that it has received a generous grant in the amount of $123,298 from PetSmart Charities, the leading funder of animal welfare in North America, for emergency relief support. The grant includes $75,000 in cash and an estimated $48,298 of in-kind goods, to support an estimated 3,000+ pets the SPCA of Texas’ Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit rescues annually from abuse in North Texas and animals affected by natural disasters.

The cash funding will provide for veterinary expenses, including but not limited to spay and neuter surgeries, vaccinations, testing, microchip and necessary medical procedures incurred during the treatment. The in-kind supplies, which include carriers and crates, bowls, leashes and collars, litter boxes, training pads, scoops, clippers, toys and more, will support the necessary immediate sheltering and transport needs for rescued pets and those affected by natural disasters.

The SPCA of Texas is able to provide exceptional care for these rescued animals thanks to this generous grant from PetSmart Charities. Without support from foundations and donors like PetSmart Charities, the SPCA of Texas would not be able to afford the cost of the care for the animals necessary to save lives.
“For years, SPCA of Texas has proven itself to be a trusted partner in all phases of emergency relief,” said Kelly Balthazor, regional relationship manager for PetSmart Charities. “By providing this grant to support rescue efforts throughout 2017, we hope they will be able to continue the important work they are doing to help pets in need in their community.”

PetSmart Charities’ emergency relief grants provide assistance in the event of a natural or man-made crisis during all phases: rescue, relief and recovery. With the help of its more than 3,000 animal welfare partners, such as the SPCA of Texas, PetSmart Charities emergency relief efforts have assisted more than 244,000 pets in the U.S. since 2007.

"I'm absolutely in LOVE with Kitty (formerly Kaleigh). I know her name isn't original at all but I just started calling her that until I could think of a name and it just stuck - it's so her! I've attached two photos - she's seriously the most beautiful kitty in the world! She loves to steal tennis balls and bones from her dog sister - she thinks she's a dog! She enjoys going for walks and car rides, snuggling with mom, bird watching, drinking from the sink, playing with her pipe cleaners and getting into mom's makeup in the mornings. I couldn't 'imagine life without her. She's the absolute best!"
