SPCA of Texas Announces Karen Froehlich as President and CEO, Addition of Three New Members of the Board of Directors

(DALLAS, TX); September 17, 2019 – The SPCA of Texas’ Board of Directors announces that Karen Froehlich will serve as the organization’s official President and CEO, effective immediately. The Board also announces the addition of three new board members.

Since earlier this year, Froehlich has served as the SPCA of Texas’ Interim President and CEO, following a change in leadership at the organization.

“Over the past months, it has become increasingly clear that Karen is the right person to lead the SPCA of Texas as we continue in our mission to provide every animal exceptional care and a loving home,” said Patricia Villareal, Chair of the Board of Directors.

“The SPCA of Texas has had a great year so far, and the successes continue,” said Froehlich. “I’m excited to lead this organization into the future.”

The organization also announces the election of three new board members: Stephanie Carreon-Elliot, Executive Vice President, McClure Ventures, LLC; Sonja McGill, Attorney; and Mandy Strauss, Partner, RSM US, LLP.

This year, the organization has found homes for more than 3,000 pets, has provided spay/neuter surgeries for over 15,000 animals, has rescued more than 1,800 pets from cruelty and so much more. Importantly, the organization has reached the milestone of spaying and neutering more than 28,000 pets since the inception of the Southern Dallas Initiative just over two years ago. The SPCA of Texas has also launched its Mobile Community Wellness program, using the Kivo Mobile Clinic, which provides low-cost vaccinations, microchips, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and other preventative care for pets in Southern Dallas and beyond.

The important work of staff and volunteers, with the support of donors, drives the mission of the SPCA of Texas and makes it possible for the organization to work to keep countless more animals in homes, out of shelters and off the streets. In its nearly 81 year history, the SPCA of Texas has become the leading, oldest and largest animal welfare organization in North Texas, and has rescued, healed and found homes for millions of animals.

"I'm absolutely in LOVE with Kitty (formerly Kaleigh). I know her name isn't original at all but I just started calling her that until I could think of a name and it just stuck - it's so her! I've attached two photos - she's seriously the most beautiful kitty in the world! She loves to steal tennis balls and bones from her dog sister - she thinks she's a dog! She enjoys going for walks and car rides, snuggling with mom, bird watching, drinking from the sink, playing with her pipe cleaners and getting into mom's makeup in the mornings. I couldn't 'imagine life without her. She's the absolute best!"
