SPCA of Texas Seizes 53 Cruelly Treated Animals from Grayson County Property

(GRAYSON COUNTY, TX); October 26, 2016
–This morning, the SPCA of Texas and the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office seized 53 cruelly treated animals from a property in Whiteright, TX (near Sherman, TX) in Grayson County.

The animals include 36 dogs, 10 cats, three roosters, two ducks, one rabbit and one hen. The fowl were transported to the SPCA of Texas' Russell H. Perry Animal Care Center in McKinney and the dogs, cats and rabbit were transported to the SPCA of Texas' Emergency Rescue Center in Dallas. The animals will now be examined by medical staff and cared for until a custody hearing takes place.

The animals were found living in urine-soaked, feces encrusted pens and wire crates around the property and inside the house on the property. Some animals found inside the residence were living in crates while others ran loose.

The animals appear to have varying health issues, including flea infestation, hair loss, extremely long nails and severe eye issues, and a few are underweight.

The SPCA of Texas received an complaint regarding cruelly treated animals on a property in Grayson County. An SPCA of Texas Animal Cruelty Investigator visited the property on Tuesday, October 25 and made contact with the animal owner.

The investigator observed the animals' living conditions, which were not in compliance with Texas Health and Safety Code, and determined that the animals had been living in that state for a long period of time. The SPCA of Texas and Grayson County Sheriff’s Office concurred that it was in the animals' best interest to remove them and sought a seizure warrant.

The custody hearing will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at 200 S. Crockett St., Sherman, TX 75090, Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1, the Honorable Larry Atherton presiding.

"I'm absolutely in LOVE with Kitty (formerly Kaleigh). I know her name isn't original at all but I just started calling her that until I could think of a name and it just stuck - it's so her! I've attached two photos - she's seriously the most beautiful kitty in the world! She loves to steal tennis balls and bones from her dog sister - she thinks she's a dog! She enjoys going for walks and car rides, snuggling with mom, bird watching, drinking from the sink, playing with her pipe cleaners and getting into mom's makeup in the mornings. I couldn't 'imagine life without her. She's the absolute best!"
