SPCA OF TEXAS RECEIVES A GRANT OF $20,000 FROM THE PETCO FOUNDATION FOR COMMUNITY VACCINATION CLINICS
TO BE HELD IN SOUTH DALLAS IN 2017

(DALLAS, TX); Thursday, December 29, 2016
– The SPCA of Texas is excited to announce that it has received a generous grant in the amount of $20,000 from the Petco Foundation to implement a key element of the Community Pet Program’s South Dallas Pet Initiative: hosting four to five community wellness events in South Dallas.

The events will be held in public spaces, in either neighborhood parks or community centers and will be free for local community members. For more information regarding the events as they are scheduled, visit www.spca.org/calendar. The events will be first come, first served, with no appointment required. Attendees’ pets will receive vaccinations, including rabies, DHPP for dogs and FVRCP for cats and microchips.

Veterinarians will conduct a brief wellness exam on every pet seen. Pets that need further medical attention will receive appointments for free or subsidized additional veterinary care.

The objective is to examine and vaccinate 300 pets per event and to sign up unaltered pets for a free spay or neuter surgery. The goal for the overall community outreach component in the South Dallas Pet Initiative is to establish the trust needed within our target communities in order to execute the following steps of spaying and neutering, offering preventive care and providing people with contact to the pet resource center.
The SPCA of Texas is able to provide exceptional care and loving homes for these animals, thanks to this generous grant from the Petco Foundation. Without support from foundations and donors like the Petco Foundation, the SPCA of Texas would not be able to afford the cost of the care for the animals necessary to save lives.

"I'm absolutely in LOVE with Kitty (formerly Kaleigh). I know her name isn't original at all but I just started calling her that until I could think of a name and it just stuck - it's so her! I've attached two photos - she's seriously the most beautiful kitty in the world! She loves to steal tennis balls and bones from her dog sister - she thinks she's a dog! She enjoys going for walks and car rides, snuggling with mom, bird watching, drinking from the sink, playing with her pipe cleaners and getting into mom's makeup in the mornings. I couldn't 'imagine life without her. She's the absolute best!"
