SPCA of Texas Thanks Foundations and Corporate Sponsors

for Supporting Hurricane Harvey Assistance Efforts

(DALLAS, TX); October 27, 2017--
The SPCA of Texasis grateful to the foundations, corporate sponsors and donors for supporting the organization’s efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and making it possible for the SPCA of Texas to assist hundreds of pets whose lives were affected by the storm. Since before Hurricane Harvey hit the Gulf Coast, the SPCA of Texas has put every available resource behind transferring hundreds of adoptable pets from shelters along the coast to North Texas and beyond as well as caring for hundreds more pets of people who evacuated to the North Texas area in a temporary animal shelter at the old Reunion Arena parking garage and at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center.

The organization also collected thousands of pounds of blankets, toys, food, treats, litter and other in-kind donations, which it has either distributed here in North Texas or plans to distribute to all natural disaster-affected areas in need now and in the coming weeks.

Thanks to the foundations and corporate partners who stepped up to the plate to help the SPCA of Texas help pets and people, the organization has been able to magnify the impact of its services to benefit those in greatest need before, during and after the recent hurricanes and for ongoing and future natural disasters.

Overall, since the last two weeks of August 2017, the SPCA of Texas has helped more than 600 pets impacted by disaster directly and many more in the coming months as recovery efforts continue even after hurricane season ends.

The SPCA of Texas is still caring for less than a dozen pets of evacuees, and will be continuing to evaluate the recovery needs in the Gulf Coast area and beyond and providing support as long as needed. In the meantime, the organization continues to rescue, heal and find homes for the pets in North Texas.

“The SPCA of Texas is sincerely grateful to the North Texas community, foundations and corporate sponsors for making this work possible,” said James Bias, SPCA of Texas President and CEO.

"I'm absolutely in LOVE with Kitty (formerly Kaleigh). I know her name isn't original at all but I just started calling her that until I could think of a name and it just stuck - it's so her! I've attached two photos - she's seriously the most beautiful kitty in the world! She loves to steal tennis balls and bones from her dog sister - she thinks she's a dog! She enjoys going for walks and car rides, snuggling with mom, bird watching, drinking from the sink, playing with her pipe cleaners and getting into mom's makeup in the mornings. I couldn't 'imagine life without her. She's the absolute best!"
