SPCA of Texas Announces New Board Chair, Board Members

(DALLAS, Texas), February 19, 2016 -- The SPCA of Texas, the leading animal welfare organization in North Texas, is proud to announce its new Board Chair, Katy Murray, Chief Financial Officer for A.H. Belo Corporation (NYSE: AHC) and previously Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President for several multi-national public and private software and service companies. The organization also announces its Executive Board Committee members and new Board members for 2016.


The SPCA of Texas’ Executive Board Committee is now comprised of Katy Murray, Chair; Judy Davis, Vice Chair, Executive Director at J.P. Morgan’s Private Bank; Teresa Henderson, Secretary, Managing Director/Market Leader at Burson-Marsteller; and James Bias, SPCA of Texas President and CEO.


New SPCA of Texas Board Members include Gustavo N. Hinojosa, AIA, IIDA, NCARB, LEED AP, Associate Principal and Senior Vice President at HKS; David Kubes, Marketing Consultant; Danny Tobey, Partner, Commercial and Business Litigation at Vinson & Elkins; and Patricia Villareal, Attorney, Securities Litigation at Jones Day.


Murray was elected Board Chair, and Hinojosa, Kubes, Tobey and Villareal were elected as Board members, by the SPCA of Texas’ Board of Directors on December 15, 2015, which took place at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas, Texas. These new Board members join the Executive Board Committee and current board members Cassie Evans, Attorney; Becky Fisher, Vice President for Human Resources at PepsiCo; Stacey Kivowitz, National Council Member for the Humane Society of the United States; Larry M. Putnam, DVM, Veterinarian (Retired); Pam Ragon, Partner at Seaton Hill; Jan Rees-Jones (non-voting), Co-founder of The Rees-Jones Foundation; Kirk Thor, Vice President for Talent Management and Organization Effectiveness at Flowserve Corporation; Karen Urie, Real Estate Sales Agent and Marketing/Business Development Consultant at Dave Perry-Miller & Associates; and John Vandermeer, DVM, Veterinarian at Highland Park Animal Hospital.


An SPCA of Texas Board Member since 2014, Murray’s passion is to help with the protection of all animals and to create sustainable environments that we share with them. Murray grew up in Louisiana and attended Louisiana State University where she received both her Bachelor and Masters of Accounting. She also sits on the boards of directors for Dallas Morning News Charities, Inc.; Downtown Dallas, Inc.; and DMV, Inc.

Murray replaces Jocelyn White, who had served as the SPCA of Texas Board Chair for the past three years. During her term, White oversaw the development of the SPCA of Texas into one of the top 15 charitable organizations in North Texas, launched The SPCA of Texas Presents PAWSitive Entertainment with Jocelyn White on WFAA-TV, Channel 8 and co-chaired the Fur Ball Gala in 2013 and 2015.

"I'm absolutely in LOVE with Kitty (formerly Kaleigh). I know her name isn't original at all but I just started calling her that until I could think of a name and it just stuck - it's so her! I've attached two photos - she's seriously the most beautiful kitty in the world! She loves to steal tennis balls and bones from her dog sister - she thinks she's a dog! She enjoys going for walks and car rides, snuggling with mom, bird watching, drinking from the sink, playing with her pipe cleaners and getting into mom's makeup in the mornings. I couldn't 'imagine life without her. She's the absolute best!"
