SPCA of Texas Celebrates the Inaugural ASPCA® Adopt a Horse Month

The nationwide adoption campaign commences on April 26th, celebrated as Help a Horse Day, and runs through the end of May

(DALLAS, TX; McKINNEY, TX); April 26, 2021 – The SPCA of Texas is participating in the first ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) Adopt A Horse Month, a nationwide adoption event taking place throughout the month of May to help more equines find loving homes. The SPCA of Texas, along with over 150 additional equine adoption and rescue groups across the country, has joined the campaign to promote the adoptable horses in their care and engage with their communities to raise awareness about equine adoption.

During Adopt a Horse Month, the SPCA of Texas is offering a special on companion-only horses, horses that are not suitable for riding. Adopters who adopt a riding horse can adopt a companion horse and have the fee waived. Additionally, adopters can take home two companion horses and the SPCA of Texas will waive the fee of one. “The SPCA of Texas is proud to participate in the ASPCA’s first-ever Adopt a Horse Month. As long-time partners, we are looking forward to joining them in finding horses great homes,” said Karen Froehlich, President & CEO of the SPCA of Texas. “We are hoping to highlight our horses that have been harder to place and match them with adopters where they will be a perfect fit.”

Motivated by the results of ASPCA research suggesting there could be approximately 2.3 million adults in the U.S. with both the resources and desire to adopt a horse in need, Adopt a Horse Month is focused on increasing the number of equines adopted across the country.

“The ASPCA is committed to supporting the many groups nationwide, including SPCA of Texas, working tirelessly to find safe, loving homes for the horses in their care, and Adopt a Horse Month provides an impactful way for these groups to reach potential equine adopters,” said Dr. Emily Weiss, vice president of ASPCA Equine Welfare. “We are in awe of the innovative and thoughtful ways this year’s contestants are finding more homes for horses and raising awareness about equine adoption within their community.”

"I'm absolutely in LOVE with Kitty (formerly Kaleigh). I know her name isn't original at all but I just started calling her that until I could think of a name and it just stuck - it's so her! I've attached two photos - she's seriously the most beautiful kitty in the world! She loves to steal tennis balls and bones from her dog sister - she thinks she's a dog! She enjoys going for walks and car rides, snuggling with mom, bird watching, drinking from the sink, playing with her pipe cleaners and getting into mom's makeup in the mornings. I couldn't 'imagine life without her. She's the absolute best!"
