SPCA of Texas Seizes Cruelly Confined, Medically Neglected Animals from Fannin County, Texas Property

(FANNIN COUNTY, TX); January 18, 2016 - The SPCA of Texas, the City of Bonham Animal Services along with the Bonham Police Department served a search and seizure warrant on Monday, January 18 at two different properties in a residential area of Bonham, TX in Fannin County. The SPCA of Texas Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit seized and took custody of sixty two cats and three dogs, and arrived at 2121 Lone Star Drive, the SPCA of Texas’ Rescue Center, Empowered by PetSmart Charities Emergency Relief the same afternoon.

The owners said there were only fifteen cats in one of the houses. After the search and seizure warrants were served, dozens more cats along with one dog were found inside of the first house, approximately forty more were found in a back room, and ten more were found in a detached garage. One dog there was also found inside the first house.

Two dogs were found inside the house on the second property, which was located about 3 miles from the first property.

The animals were living in own feces and urine, and suffered from health issues such as flea infestation, severe eye discharge, nasal discharge and sneezing.

City of Bonham Animal Control reached out to the SPCA of Texas’ Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit this past Saturday after visiting the property on Friday. The City of Bonham Animal Control obtained the warrant based on what they saw Friday. The animal’s conditions were not in compliance with Texas Health and Safety Code.  The severity of the situation caused law enforcement moved quickly to remove the animals.

Criminal charges may be pending under the authority of the City of Bonham Animal Control and the Fannin County District Attorney’s Office.
