Donate to the VIP Club!

As you can imagine, animals are happiest when they’re in a nurturing home. But while they’re with us, our staff and volunteers give their all to provide a high level of care. By donating to the SPCA of Texas you will ensure that all of our animals receive the individual care that will keep them healthy and happy and, ultimately, more adoptable. You’ll also support the SPCA’s many programs and services that bring people and animals together to enrich each others' lives.

A VIP is any animal (excluding livestock) that has been available for adoption for over 30 days.  We invite you to join the VIP Club, to tell everyone you know about how they can become a part of the VIP Club and receive our monthly flyers and post them at work, in your neighborhood and around town to help give our VIP Club animals more exposure and to hopefully get them out of our shelters and on with their lives. Thank you for your support and care for all the animals at the SPCA of Texas!

Hey guys! My name is Bentley.

Much like the cool and sophisticated car that shares my name, I am fun to take for a test drive! You should come by the SPCA and take me out for a spin  - I do love cornering in those SPCA dog runs!!!

In addition to my sleek black & white Pointer exterior, I also have a lot going on “under the hood”. I’m a smart boy, good at tasks. I’ve been taking SPCA classes so that I can get a high customer satisfaction rating, perfect for families. I do get revved up, and I need to belong to a family that is comfortable letting my motor run.

I’m a good purchase that will retain value for years to come! All lights are green and the flag is up. Don’t tap the breaks on this boy!! Come down to the SPCA of Texas in McKinney and give me a spin!

The animal shelter really rocks at night and Halloween rocked more than usual this year.
As soon as the people left on Halloween Eve, the grown-up dogs and cats sprang into action decorating all the kennels and condos.  We dressed in fantastic homemade costumes.  My name may be Georgie Girl, but last weekend I was a very scary witch. At least, I thought I looked scary in my witch costume.  The puppies and kittens just laughed though, when I gave my spookiest howl.

The adult dogs and cats had been gathering biscuits for days.  We’d even cooked kibble in orange and black.  It had all been safely hidden in our special closet.  Now, it was my job to deliver the treats to each animal’s door.  I trotted to the closet and pawed through boxes until I got to the ones stashed at the very back.  As I tugged them out, I noticed that some felt too light.  I opened them to check.

“Oh, no!” I yelped.  Half our boxes were empty and soon it would be time for Trick-or-Treat!

I followed a trail of crumbs to the guilty animals.  Those chow-hounds, Jake and Jazzi, were stretched out in the laundry room burping and moaning that their stomachs were too full.  Their pal, Cookie Cat, was sprawled on the top of a clothes-dryer licking crumbs out of her fur.  The three of them had eaten every one of the stolen goodies.  I had to think fast or Halloween would be ruined.

“Attention!” I barked.  “Follow me immediately or I’ll tell the puppies and kittens that you ate all their treats.  Then I’ll have the big dogs throw you into the puppy room for the night.”

Jake, Jazzi, and Cookie rolled to their feet and cowered.

“Oh, Georgie Girl,” pleaded Jake. “Please, don’t tell.”

“We’re sorry,” yowled Cookie.

“I can’t stand the sound of sad puppies,” whimpered Jazzi.

“You’re going to fix this now, or else,” I said as I herded them to the office area.

When I left them a few minutes later, they were dialing the phones as fast as their paws could move.  They were calling all our animal friends in the community nearby.  I went to the front door to wait.  It seemed like I paced for hours, but I know it was only a few minutes before I heard noise outside.  I jerked open the door.  Animals streamed in with bags, boxes and baskets.  They said they’d gotten the word that the shelter was in need.  Soon we had more treats then we knew what to do with.  I had another idea---I invited all our friends to stay for the party after Trick-or-Treat.  Wow! What a party that was.  With happy puppies and kittens finally asleep, we partied till midnight.  Not a morsel was left.  Jake, Jazzi, and Cookie even volunteered to do all the clean-up.

Everyone called me a hero for my fast thinking.  I told them the real heroes were all the terrific animals in the community who raced to the animal shelter to save Halloween.

If you want to be my personal hero, please come visit me in the SPCA animal shelter on Riverfront Boulevard in Dallas.  I’d love to spend Thanksgiving in my new forever home with you.

Hello, friends

My name is Cookie.

Right now I’m living down at the SPCA of Texas in McKinney.  I used to live with a family, but someone had allergies. So, I relocated to my SPCA home. It’s a great place to live, but I sure do miss having a home of my own.

I am about three years old, so I know all about the good life: living with a family, having my own sun spot on the carpet, that kind of thing. I’m really hoping that you’ll come by and meet me soon so that we can see if we’d be good partners.

I’m an orange and white shorthaired girl with beautiful green eyes. I like to walk around a lot and explore things, my tail serving as my happiness indicator. Like most cats, I’m pretty curious and interested in new things.

My previous mom said that I liked to be petted a lot. I don’t necessarily want you to hold me, but I do want you to love on me…maybe even let me climb up on to your lap.

If I sound like the kind of lady you could get along with, please come down and visit with me. I’m looking forward to meeting you!

Yours Truly,

Cookie

November 18, 2009

Hi, folks.  I’m Sasha.  You know the Animal Shelter rocks at night, but Thanksgiving Night is always extra special.  We’re planning a fantastic feast this year and I’m the head chef.  Here are some of the recipes I’ll be preparing:

 Cat Treats-
1)      Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
2)      Combine half cup of dry milk with half cup of wheat germ.  Mix well with regular-sized jar of liver-flavored baby food and touch of honey.
3)      Grease cookie sheet and drop tablespoons of batter onto the sheet like you would cookie dough.
4)      Bake for 8-10 minutes.  Treats will be slightly gooey.
5)      Cool.  Then serve or freeze in the next few days.

Dog Treats-
1)      Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
2)      Mix 2 cups whole-wheat flour with 1 cup rolled oats.
3)      Mix in 1/3 cup peanut butter (chunky or smooth) and 1 ¼ cup hot water.
4)      Kneed dough well.
5)      Roll out dough to 1/4 inch thickness and cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
6)      Bake on a lightly greased cookie sheet for 40 minutes.
7)      Turn oven off and let them cool overnight.

Chicken for Everybody:
1)      Cook plain chicken breasts (no bones, no seasoning, no oil).
2)      Let cool and cut into small pieces.

I’m still working on the menu, but I’m sure I’ll be the hero of the animal shelter when I serve up my terrific Thanksgiving dinner.

You can be a hero, too.  Come visit my friends and me at the SPCA of Texas Animal Shelter on Riverfront Blvd.  Give a loving animal a forever home and an extra reason to be thankful this Thanksgiving.
