The From Feral to Friendly procedure will offer animal welfare organizations an alternative to euthanasia for feral and fearful felines.

It is a fast, safe, and systematic method of training feral and fearful felines to emit the friendly behaviors necessary to be companion animals.   Shelter staff/volunteers can be trained to teach feral and fearful felines the desirable behaviors required to meet adoptability criteria.

The new behaviors the animal learns become so effective in getting the animal what it wants that the undesirable behaviors are no longer necessary and thus are no longer emitted.  In a matter of hours “unadoptable” feral kittens are behaving friendly and approaching the trainer and allowing the trainer to pet them.  This procedure is also effective for friendly, but fearful felines that are not showing well in their cage at the shelter.

The shelter staff/volunteers can train the fearful feline to emit more desirable behaviors so potential adopters will be more likely to interact with the feline.   The procedure can be repeated in new environments and with new people as needed.  The From Feral to Friendly procedure can be easily taught to new adopters to help with the transition from the animal welfare organization to the animal’s new home.
