Looking for a Purebred Puppy?
Don't Buy Into the Cruelty of Puppy Mills
Puppy mill owners are deceptive. They pose as caring breeders with “just a few” puppies to sell.
They don’t want you to know the truth. They’ll never invite you to their rural property, where they keep hundreds of dogs in stacked wire cages. Females don’t receive adequate food or care, producing litter after litter until they die of neglect or disease. Many dogs spend their entire lives in a single cage, matted with feces and covered with urine burns, their eyes ulcerated from toxic fumes. At least the pups are cleaned up and taken for sale–until they get too old.
You’ll never see behind the scenes. But we have, and if you knew what we know, you would never support this cruel industry.
Spot the Signs
- A puppy mill owner won’t let you see where her dogs live.
- A puppy mill owner will try to meet you at a location other than where he lives.
- A puppy mill owner won’t let you meet the puppy’s mother.
Puppy mills specialize in “purebred” puppies. The SPCA of Texas has rescued Chihuahuas, Poodles, Beagles, Pugs, Shih-Tzus, Maltese, Pomeranians, Dachshunds and many other breeds from horrible conditions in North Texas puppy mills. Unfortunately, if people keep buying their puppies, then cruelty is a successful formula for puppy mill owners.
The SPCA of Texas is working with law enforcement to shut down puppy mills and prosecute their owners. You can help, too. Educate yourself, and tell your friends. Don’t buy puppies from puppy mills.
Stop the cycle. Know the truth. Don't shop, adopt today.
